Sumaree Sriuam is a simple 29- year old chicken noodles vendor in Pattaya, Thailand. She was on her motorbike and was around Bali Hai Pier when she found a wallet on the ground. To her surprise, the wallet had credits cards, THB400,000 worth of checks, and THB29,822 worth of cash inside. The wallet owner’s name was Wutthikorn Hanwutthisut.
“I just feel sorry for the owner. I don’t want other people’s property, and I know they’d want it back,” the 29- year old lady said during her interview with Siamchon News. She decided to consult Muang Pattaya Police to help her find the owner of the lost wallet.
Thanawut, Wutthikorn’s brother was the one to get the wallet back from the police station because the latter couldn’t go to the police station as he was in the hospital. He even gave the food vendor some money and was grateful for her honesty and integrity for returning the wallet back. The woman who accompanied him also gave her a hug.
The honesty of the food vendor seemed like the best story in Pattaya in decades. This proves that not all people are greedy for money and material things. Sumaree could have bought luxurious items or even put up a better store with the money she found. However, her honesty and integrity remained constant and brought the wallet back to its rightful owner.
This should stay as a lesson for all of us that no money can match the kindness of a person’s heart. If you were Sumaree, would you have done the same and returned the wallet?
