Filipino culture stresses the importance of helping our elders when we come of age. This is the value instilled in many of us growing up.
Our parents spent much of their adult lives supporting us, so it’s only fair to support them when they grow old and frail.
Actress/comedienne Pokwang is one Pinay who truly cherishes this responsibility. On Instagram, the Kapamilya star shared her experiences with her mother who’s suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
Alzheimer’s disease is an irreversible brain condition frequently found in the elderly. The disease gradually erodes memories, cognition, and behavior – leaving the elderly confused and forgetful.
In one cute – albeit bittersweet – Instagram post, Pokwang shares this heartfelt message to her ailing mother.
The caption read:
Happy birthday mama... I love you! sana mas matagal kapa namin makasama at mayakap”
Here’s another tender moment where mother and daughter share an embrace.
Many netizens admire Pokwang’s devotion to her mother, despite the fact that her mother has difficulty recognizing her.
In an interview with ABS-CBN Push, Pokwang revealed: “Wala na siyang emosyon…
But that fact doesn’t deter Pokwang from her duties as a daughter.
This short clip shows the mother-daughter duo taking a swim in Pokwang’s pool. According to the post, Pokwang’s mother was the person who taught her how to swim. Now it’s Pokwang’s turn to guide her mother.
Our best wishes and heartfelt sympathies go out to you, Pokwang!
